Construction Manager III

Dylan F

Meet Dylan, Construction Manager III at Medxcel. In his day-to-day, Dylan manages construction projects all over his region, from small clinic renovations to ICU tower additions.

It’s incredible to see how our work benefits the local community. I personally know three people who have had their babies in our NICU here. I love seeing friends and family being served by the projects we’ve executed.

What is your role at Medxcel?

I’m part of a team managing construction projects for hospitals in our region. I represent our clients, ensuring the construction or renovation projects we manage for them align with their goals and values.

There’s a lot of construction happening in the Tennessee market. Currently, we’re managing projects ranging from small clinic renovations to ICU tower additions for a hospital. My day consists of a lot of meetings. I meet with hospital leadership daily, take their questions or concerns to the construction team, making sure everyone is aligned, and any inquiries are addressed. I also work closely with the individual project managers of various construction projects. There are quite a few we’re managing right now.

Describe the path you took to arrive in your current role.

I worked for a large commercial construction company, in and out of college, for more than eight years. After that, I decided to utilize my structural engineering degree, and that experience wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would be, so I pivoted to multifamily development, specifically Section 8 housing and portable housing as an owner’s rep. I oversaw developments across Texas and Tennessee, and that travel got to be a bit much for my family. I eventually applied to a position with Medxcel within Tennessee, and it’s kept me home. It’s been a good fit so far.

What is the best part of your job?

The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at Rutherford Hospital comes to mind. It’s incredible to see how our work benefits the local community, specifically in the form of helping children. It’s amazing to walk that hallway and know that we’ve made an impact in that space.

I personally know three people who have had their babies in our NICU here. I love seeing friends and family being served by the projects we’ve executed.

How would you describe the culture at Medxcel?

I’d describe the Medxcel culture as open and diverse. It’s great to see the different people I work and communicate with daily, from the landscaping crew to facilities teams and hospital leadership. There are no pretenses here. Everyone can talk to anyone about anything, and there’s a lot of coordination across departments. I’ve worked for other companies where that was not the case.

How does Medxcel support your personal wellbeing?

I came to Medxcel to travel less and prioritize work-life balance while pursuing a meaningful career. I was very upfront about that in my interviews, and my leaders have shown me the value of that as well.

I have a two-year-old daughter. She’s high-energy and recently got seven stitches in her head. My leaders were quick to say: “Hey, you need to go take care of what’s happening at home, so you can take care of what’s here.” The priorities they’ve set for me align with my priorities.

As far as the benefits here, I’m taking advantage of the tuition reimbursement plan, starting work on my MBA in a few weeks. My manager and counterparts have encouraged me to go that route and provided me with all the recommendations necessary to get accepted into the program I applied for, including approvals for tuition reimbursement at Medxcel.

What would you say to someone if they ask you if you recommend working at Medxcel?

I absolutely recommend it. I’m actively recruiting to bring people over. The highlights I hit on are the diversity, cooperation across departments, and work-life balance. I have nothing but the best things to say about my experience so far.
